Mozart & Bizet

The Northern Neck Orchestra kicks off its 2022-2023 concert season with performances of Adolphus Hailstork’s moving Fanfare on Amazing Grace, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s delightful Horn Concerto No. 4, featuring soloist Emma Potter, and George Bizet’s lively L’Arlesienne Suites Nos. 1 and 2.

The concert begins with Hailstork’s Fanfare on Amazing Grace. The Virginia Beach-based composer and educator utilizes the full orchestra to add sweep and depth to the familiar hymn producing a truly exciting musical experience.

The performance of the fanfare is a tribute to the memory
of those we have lost over the last two years and
a communal celebration of being together.

The concert continues with Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 4, showcasing 22-year-old soloist Emma Potter. The vivacious composition challenges the skills of the soloist throughout.

We’re delighted to highlight the special talents of
Emma Potter, a fabulous musician who is just embarking
on her solo career. You will enjoy her gorgeous tone,
dramatic trills and wide range.

Michael Repper, Music Director

The performance ends with Bizet’s dazzling L’Arlesienne Suites Nos. 1 and 2.

The music is fun, lively and, at times, raucous. It’s an exciting way
to conclude our first concert of the season.

Michael Repper, Music Director
