The Northern Neck Orchestra’s season finale on May 11, 2024 at the Lancaster Elementary School Theater, 191 School St.in Kilmarnock, features one of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s most beautiful piano concertos and an enduring symphony as well as exciting new music inspired by the composer. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. and will be preceded by a pre-concert talk at 6:45 p.m.
The concert includes the Virginia premiere of Andrew Synnott’s Waiting for Elvira and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21, both performed by renowned Irish pianist Michael McHale. A part of the concerto appeared in the 1967 film “Elvira Madigan.” The performance concludes with Mozart’s Symphony No. 38, “Prague.”
Belfast-born Michael McHale has established himself as one of Ireland’s leading pianists and has developed a busy international career as a solo recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician. He has performed and recorded as a soloist with the Minnesota and Hallé Orchestras, the Moscow, Bournemouth, Jacksonville, Fort Smith, BBC and London Symphony Orchestras, City of London Sinfonia, London Mozart Players and all five of the major Irish orchestras. McHale has appeared at numerous concert venues, including the Tanglewood, BBC Proms and Tokyo Spring Festivals, Barbican, Cadogan Hall and Southbank Centre in London, Berlin Konzerthaus, Lincoln Center, Symphony Hall in Boston and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
